Dan and Val McMurray's Tomatoes
I am very sad to report that Dan McMurray passed away on February 15, 2012.
Val McMurray passed away on March 21, 2010.
They were remarkable people, and dedicated seed savers, who generously shared their love for gardening and their seeds with so many people around the globe.
Val and Dan McMurray's Seed Collection was passed to College of Rockies in BC, Canada in spring 2012.
I have been exchanging seeds with Dan and Val since 2005. We talked so much about seed preservation and about gardening in general. I miss them dearly. I have been doing my best to maintain the tomato varieties I obtained from McMurrays directly and via College of Rockies, who is the official keeper of McMurray's Seed Collection.
Please see Memorial List of McMurrays' Varieties to view tomato varieties that came to Tatiana's TOMATObase seed bank from Van and Dan McMurray in 2006-2009.

Seed saving (by Dan McMurray)
Learn to save seed from your own fruit, and trade/share them with your gardening friends. Here are two links to pages that will show/tell you how to save seeds from your tomatoes: Fermentation method and TSP method. Both methods work very well. The fermentation method is perhaps a bit more environmentally friendly, but the TSP method is quicker, smells better, and has no fruit flies showing up. Concerns about the TSP method shortening viability seem to be unfounded, since the proponent of the method routinely uses 15+ year old seed that was cleaned using that method. Once dried, store seeds in a cool, relatively dry place. If you are not afraid they will get thrown out when you clean your refrigerator, the crisper or butter holder, or just a jar stuck in the back of the fridge makes a good storage area.
