indet., regular leaf, fruits are medium size, 4-8 oz, round oblate beefsteaks, beautiful mahogany skin color with dark green shoulders and faint thin dark green stripes, striking dark pink/purple/mahogany flesh. Excellent taste, smoky and slightly acidic, small seed cavities, juicy.

MAN ST T

(aka Watermelon Like) Originally from Russia. The purplish colored fruits have occasional green striping and average 8oz. This variety has slightly smaller fruit than Indian Stripe or the other “Blacks” but it has an outstanding unique flavor. Very productive and one of the highlights of the 2008 season! Indeterminate, regular leaf foliage. (75 days from transplant).

History

  • Russian commercial variety, a new selection introduced by a Russian CV 'Gavrish' in the early 2000s, developed by the breeders Gavrish, Morev, and Amcheslavsky.
  • First introduced to SSE by Andrey Baranovski of Minsk, Belarus in 2007. Andrey lists it as indet., 5-6 oz dark raspberry fruit with dark green stripes, which makes fruit look like a watermelon, hence the name.
