- Russian variety, possibly from a village of Shuntuk, Republic of Adygeya, Russian Federation.
- Introduced to North America by Andrey Baranovski of Minsk, Belarus, who traded seeds with Garden Web members in 2005.
- First offered in the Seed Savers 2005 Yearbook by Carolyn Male of Salem, New York (NY MA C).
Russian name: Шунтукский Великан
- 'Velikan' means 'Giant' in Russian, "Shuntukski" likely refers to a place in Russia where this variety was cultivated or originated.
