80 days, regular leaf, indeterminate. Great early monster variety, with excellent flavour. Red fruit was routinely 18-22oz each, flattened with irregular shapes. Seemed to like the heat we had here this year. Great large variety for a short season! 12lb/plant.

History

  • Russian variety, possibly from a village of Shuntuk, Republic of Adygeya, Russian Federation.
  • Introduced to North America by Andrey Baranovski of Minsk, Belarus, who traded seeds with Garden Web members in 2005.
  • First offered in the Seed Savers 2005 Yearbook by Carolyn Male of Salem, New York (NY MA C).



Russian name: Шунтукский Великан

'Velikan' means 'Giant' in Russian, "Shuntukski" likely refers to a place in Russia where this variety was cultivated or originated.
