Red Leprechaun Cross
From Tatiana's TOMATOBase
B.C KO T
- This is a natural cross of Red Leprechaun lettuce with an unknown, likely green, oakleaf that was discovered in my 2010 garden when I grew Red Leprechaun lettuce from the seed I received from Bill Minkey of Darien, Wisconsin, where the cross likely to have appeared. The seed will produce a colorful mix of oakleaf/romaine lettuces, some solid green and some with purplish speckles. Very fast growing and robust, great flavor.
Seed source:
- Bill Minkey of Darien, Wisconsin (WI MI B) 06 (Red Leprechaun seed)
Year grown: 2010, 2011
Location: Zone 7b, PNW, Anmore, BC, Canada (760 ft above sea level)
History
- A natural cross of Red Leprechaun red romaine lettuce with an unknown oakleaf variety that produced a range of romaine lettuces, some with purple speckles and some with serrated leaves. It was discovered in the garden of Tatiana Kouchnareva (B.C KO T) in 2010 in the patch of Red Leprechaun lettuce.
