Tatiana Kouchnareva (B.C KO T). Lime Green Salad - ripe fruit. 2013-08-03.

B.C KO T

Det. compact dwarf plants with regular leaf rugose foliage, grow 2-3' tall. Flower trusses are big, and although not all the flowers always set fruit, the resulting yield is still impressive. Fruits are olive green, round and slightly oblate, 1-3 oz. Meaty flesh and thick bright green gel around the seeds. Excellent flavor when fully ripe, both sweetish and acidic. First few fruits often have very few seeds. (15 seeds / packet)

A.k.a. Green Elf. Plants about 2 to 2 1/2 ft tall, compact with stout central stem, very well suited for growing in pots or other containers. Small (1-3 oz) round fruit are juicy and the flavor has a sharp tart bite. They are bright green when ripe, lighter in color than the dark green unripe fruit. While this is not one of my favorites, flavor-wise, it does provide a very useful entry in the wide spectrum of flavors that we find in tomatoes and thus is very worthwhile, and some folks will really like that sharp tart flavor.

History

  • Variety was bred by Tom Wagner and introduced by Tim Peters (CV Peters Seed) in the 1980s. Tom named it Green Elf. Tim Peters, who received seed from Tom Wagner and listed it in his Peters' Seed Research (PSR) back in the 1980's, had not realized that Tom already had a name for it, and named it "Lime Green Salad".
  • First offered in the Seed Savers 1995 Yearbook by Donald C. Kellums of Port Byron, Illinois (IL KE D) and Bill Minkey of Darien, Wisconsin (WI MI B), who got the seeds from Peters Seed and Research.
