History

Darrel found 3 potato leaf seedlings when he grew Black from Tula seed from the packet purchased from Chuck Wyatt ( Heirloom Tomatoes ) in 2002. All the other plants grown from the same seed packet were regular leaf. Darrel thought the potato leaf variant was an excellent tomato, and in 2005 he shared some seeds with Bill Malin of Hillsboro, New Mexico, who had been collecting potato leaf tomatoes. Bill Malin grew it out and offered as Spudatula Black.
* Darrel's original name for this tomato was Black from Tula Potato Leaf, and a few gardeners still have the seeds under the original name. ll have the seeds under the original name.
