History
- Originated in Peru.
- First offered in the Seed Savers 1993 Yearbook by Dorothy Noble of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania (PA NO D), who got the seeds from USDA.
- Please note that Lemon Drop (USDA, PI 315024 (Peru)) is sometimes classified as C. chinense, and other times as C. baccatum. I believe the chinense designation is coming from the USDA where the seeds originated from for many North American growers. The best way to differentiate between chinense and baccatum species is by petals color - baccatums have greenish-yellow speckles on petals, and chinense peppers do not.
- United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), PI 315024. Collected from Peru and donated to the USDA in 1966 from University of California.
