History
- This variety was originally called "Sprint" (not to be confused with another Sprint tomato which is listed at SSE as regular leaf!), and Johnny's changed the name from 'Sprint' to 'Kotlas' because Kotlas became Johnny's sister city in the USSR.
- Kotlas is a northern city in Arhangelsk region of Russia, and unfortunately it was also one of the places where lots of people were deported and placed in labor camps for their political or religious beliefs by the communist regime in the 1920-40s. The labor camps existed there until 1953. For more history see Kotlas and the GULAG article.
