History

  • A family heirloom from Bulgaria.
  • Jeffrey Casey, the owner of Casey's Heirloom Tomatoes of Airdrie , received the seed in 2008 from Frances Machum of Alberta, Canada, who, in turn, obtained it from the proprietor, Bob Ponting, of a cafe in Hays, Alberta. As the name of this variety has since been long lost, Frances Machum named it after the city of Hays.
  • First introduced commercially by Casey's Heirloom Tomatoes of Airdrie in 2010.
