Named in honor of the late Valerie “Grungy” McMurray (1950-2010), Grungy in the Sky is the result of a cross between a crack resistant strain of dark yellow slicers sent from Valerie to Tom Wagner who then hybridized them with his late blight resistant Skykomish. Starting with the F2 generation, I have segregated the most hardy, disease resistant, crack resistant and pure yellow saladettes resulting in this F4 seed which should remain quite stable. If you have a problem with blight then there are few other tomatoes which could match the immunity bred into Grungy in the Sky. They also happen to be quite drought and heat tolerant, producing dependably through the worst rainy or dry spells all the way until frost. Being very juicy with a sweet and balanced flavor, they make ideal fruits for juicing or halved into salads. They also make a good yellow tomato soup.
