History

  • First listed in the SSE Yearbook in 1984 by Kim Cary of Batesville, VA (VA CA K), who said that it came from Greenbriar County, West Virginia. The second listing appears in 1986 by Faxon Stinnett from Oklahoma who likely acquired it from Kim Cary.
  • Chuck Wyatt acquired the seeds from Faxon Stinnett and listed it in 1999 SSE Yearbook, mentioning Ben Quisenberry's collection as an origin. It is not clear why Chuck changed the origin information, as Faxon Stinnett continued listing it as having West Virginia roots.
  • In summary, all we know now is that Bear Claw either originated or found its way to West Virginia and was discovered/acquired by Kim Cary, VA.
