History

  • Russian origin, from Institute of Horticulture in Barnaul, Altai, Siberia. The original Russian name is unknown/lost; it was probably named by Bill McDorman of Hailey, Idaho who collected the seeds in Russia.
  • Introduced commercially Seeds Trust/High Altitude Gardens in the early 90s.
  • First offered in the Seed Savers 1994 Yearbook by Donald C. Kellums of Port Byron, Illinois (IL KE D).
  • Some SSE members described it as a beefsteak, but others described it as a heart. There is also some confusion about the growth habit (det. or indet.) and skin color (pink or red).
  • SSE TOMATO 2555.
