A.k.a. Green Elf. Plants about 2 to 2 1/2 ft tall, compact with stout central stem, very well suited for growing in pots or other containers. Small (1-3 oz) round fruit are juicy and the flavor has a sharp tart bite. They are bright green when ripe, lighter in color than the dark green unripe fruit. While this is not one of my favorites, flavor-wise, it does provide a very useful entry in the wide spectrum of flavors that we find in tomatoes and thus is very worthwhile, and some folks will really like that sharp tart flavor.

History

  • Variety was bred by Tom Wagner and introduced by Tim Peters in the 1980s. Tom named it Green Elf. Tim Peters, who received seed from Tom Wagner and listed it in his Peters' Seed Research (PSR) back in the 1980's, had not realized that Tom already had a name for it, and named it "Lime Green Salad".
  • The Garden Seed Inventory 6th edition noted 5 commercial sources in 2004 (Ga1, Sand Hill Preservation Center , Solana Seeds , Tomato Growers Supply , Tomatofest ), but I have not verified that these sources still offer this variety.
