60-70 days, indet., medium sized plant with regular leaf foliage that is somewhat droopy. Produces 4-7 oz. red globe-shaped fruit with very good acidic flavor. Fruits are smooth, blemish-free and very juicy, with light-red interior and many seeds. Fruits grow in clusters of 4-6. Medium to high yield.

An old heirloom and used commercially starting in the 1930’s. I was really surprised at how productive and uniform the fruit was. The plant habit remained mid-height between two and three feet. Mid-sized fruit.

History

  • A cross of Marglobe and Marvana made in 1923. Introduced commercially in 1931.
  • Burpee 1937 Catalog description:
"A Tomato outstanding for its early maturity and productiveness. The fruits are almost round and have a bright orange-scarlet skin. The vine growth is moderate. The fruits are solid and heavy, with small seed cavities. It was originated by the Department of Agriculture from a cross made between Marglobe and Marvana and is a very popular early variety."
