History

  • This is the background as taken from the Southern Exposure Seed Exchange web site (they were the company that introduced the variety). "Possibly first available commercially in 1929 by Livingston Seed Co. though it dates from about 1915 as a family heirloom from Willis, Virginia. Reintroduced in 1989 by SESE." Craig LeHoullier believes that it was Tad Smith of Virginia who obtained the variety from a family in Willis and sent it to the SESE for evaluation.
