Chocolate mother, Caspian pink father cross got bee contaminated at F1 with unknown potato leaf. Selected for flavor, winning blind trials against Brandywine and Cherokee Purple. Earlier than most others of its size with a good ratio of meat to juice and balance of tomato flavors. Although selected for flavor, there is an accidental beauty to this cultivar which has some anthocyanin in around 1/4 of the plants, with no relation to the OSU tomato. prefers acidic clay soils and does not handle extreme heat but can withstand prolonged moist cold periods. Ripe fruits at around 75 days after transplant make this beefsteak faster than most of its size. has not been fertilized or treated with any chemicals before, during or after de-hybridization, to ensure adaptation to organic soils. This year will yield very stable F6 seed, with only slight variations including fruit striping (not green stripe like vintage wine or green zebra) and leaf antho. the ones with fruit striping almost look like turtle shells from the blossom side.
