Talk:German Tomato, Mr. Tartar's
From Tatiana's TOMATOBase
- 90 days, indet., regular leaf plant with a good yield of round red fruits, some fruits were oblate, and others resembled blunt heart, but I wouldn't call it a heart, 6-12 oz, great flavor that was not affected by the cold nights we had in June and early July of 2007. Grown from seeds received from John Seewald. It does not look like an authentic variety.
2007 Notes:
- Bill Minkey (WI MI B) lists it in SSE Yearbook as "8-16 oz, round to elongated, heart-shaped", and Gayle Saberniak, from whom Bill got his seeds, lists it as "large oxheart to elongated heart shaped fruit, average over 1 lb". Another SSE member (CA CO P2) lists it as "med. size round red slicer in clusters of 3-4" .
- Obviously, there has been some crossing here. Unfortunately I do not have any original seeds left to re-grow and see if I get any different fruit shape. But whether it is a crossed seed or not, the flavor is excellent and it is worth growing.
