History:
- There are two different tomatoes known under this name.
- One was developed by a Stanley Jackson in the United Kingdom, who had been selecting for thin skinned fruits for 20 years.
- Another one is said to be originated in North America, and it has been propagated by the members of Heritage Seed Library in the United Kingdom. This is what Vicki Cooke, Collection Co-ordinator of Heritage Seed Library, said in response to a member's inquiry about this tomato:
- "The lady who donated them to us had acquired them from an elderly lady in a home; when asked how they had got their name she responded that she didn't know, so I suspect that the origins of the name will remain a mystery." The elderly lady was from Gloucester, and she received it from an American friend. This variety seems to pre-date Stanley Jackson's breeding efforts in the 1990s.
