Early to mid-season. Compact regular leaf plants. Small red round fruits, 2-4 oz. Very juicy, with very good balanced flavor.

History

  • Russian origin. Named after a prominent Russian botanist and geneticist, Nikolai Vavilov. Vavilov collected seeds from around the world, and created the world's largest seedbank in Leningrad. Today, the Vavilov Institute of Plant Industry in St.Petersburg (former Leningrad) still maintains one of the world's largest collections of plant genetic material.
  • First offered in the Seed Savers 1996 Yearbook by Seed Savers Heritage Farm, Decorah, Iowa (IA SSE HF), original seed came from Marina Danilenko of the former USSR.
