History

  • A family heirloom from Germany’s Black Forest.
  • Introduced by Joseph Bratka of Elmwood Park, New Jersey (NJ BR J) in 1991, who said that it came from Black Forest region of Germany to America in late 1800s, brought in by his grandfather.
  • The original seed was not stable or was crossed, as per Carolyn Male of Salem, New York (NY MA C), it also gave det. plants with medium red fruits, so she re-selected for type.
