indet., potato leaf, large pink beefsteaks, flattened and slightly ribbed, 10-18 oz, very good mild sweet flavor, juicy, small core. It does not keep very well on the counter.

History

• Said to be a very old cultivar that honored the Confederacy's only president. Came from Alabama.
• SSE TOMATO 2481.
• First offered in the 1991 Seed Savers Yearbook by Donald Sparks of Pikeville, Kentucky (KY SP D), who got the seeds from Tennie Thompson in 1988. He mentioned that this tomato was brought to Kentucky from the South by CSX Railroad employee. Other SSE members got the seed either from KY SP D as early as 1989, or bought it from commercial seed vendors (CV Se2, Heirloom Seeds ) in the early 90s.
• Probably named after Jefferson Davis, a leader of the Confederacy during the American Civil War and the President of the Confederate States of America from 1861 to 1865.
