tall indet., regular leaf healthy plant produces medium sized pink beefsteaks that are meaty and have small seed cavities. 6-8 oz. Excellent sweet balanced flavor, one of my favorite early midseason slicers.
2010 growouts : indet., regular leaf, only 2 seeds sprouted, and the plants produced different fruits - one round, slightly plum-shaped red fruit (see Hunt Family Salad) and one medium/large oblate pink beefsteaks, so it is definitely still segregating. Seeds collected from the correct, pink beefsteak plant.

Regular leaf. One successful plant in 2003 grow out of Craig’s seed – I grew again in 2004 – outstanding taste. I like this one. Craig says of his 89 seed growout – Ind., crossed, lots of medium red globes, nice flavour – original was pink and larger. I have grown this one twice – excellent flavour, and in 2004 it was earlier and much more productive that in 2003. Pink or red??, but the fruits that ripen with very dark green shoulders have the best taste.

History

  • A family heirloom from the Hunt family in Missouri, grown by the family for 75 years.
  • It goes back to at least the 1985 SSE Yearbook.
  • SSE Accession: TOMATO/PINK-PURPLE 1404
  • (Denise's notes from 2004). According to Carolyn Male, this variety was introduced by Don Branscomb as a large 4-6 inch pink beefsteak. Charles Estep (CA ES C), who probably was Craig LeHoullier's seed source for this tomato, also lists it as large pink 10-17 oz. Craig says that Charles admitted seed sample was crossed from outset.
