History

  • Original seeds came from Darrel Jones, and the package was labeled 'German'. All plants grown by Tatiana Kouchnareva (B.C KO T) from the seeds in different years (2005-2007) produced the same type of small flattened red fruit, therefore it is likely different from the other red large-fruited variety known as "German", hence the name. Source of the seeds to Darrel is Craig LeHoullier - German is a variety sent to him (unrequested, and with no background info) by an SSE member, Roger Bennett, of New York, in 1990. German, as grown by Craig, was a very large oblate red tomato (one pound and over). Craig sent Darrel saved seeds from that single growout, and Darrel managed to get at least one to germinate. What he got as a result is not at all what Craig observed with German, so it could be that the variety crossed in Craig's garden, or was not stable when Mr. Bennett sent it to him.
