- Large vines need caging or staking, 71 days, good production of large (6-8 oz.) meaty, elongated and pointed red fruit, sometimes with greenish yellow shoulders, very much resembling the fruit of Opalka. They have excellent flavor, are not overly juicy and make a good choice as a multipurpose variety. Growing them side-by-side with Opalka leads me to believe they might be the same variety as I noticed no real differences between them (see comparison photo) - it makes me wonder if Ernie was not hiding a secret.
