History
- A historic variety that dates back to 1840. It was one of the most popular and best documented tomato varieties in North America prior to the Civil War. Fearing Burr in Field and Garden Vegetables of America (1865) wrote “From the time of the introduction of the tomato to its general use in this country, the Large Red was almost the only kind cultivated, or even commonly known.”
- Re-introduced commercially by Heritage Harvest Seed in the late 2000s.
