- 80 days, indet., regular leaf plant with high yields of large slightly flattened beefsteaks that are about 4" in diameter and can reach up to 1 lb. Fruits start ripening from green-brownish color turning purple/black when fully mature. Outstanding flavor. Often growers report concentric cracking, but mine did not have any cracking.

- A very popular heirloom that originates from the Isle of Krim in the Black Sea off the coast of the Crimean Peninsula. This is one of the first heirloom vegetables that my mother and I grew and is largely responsible for my “obsession” with heirloom vegetables today. The medium to large size fruit are oblate and usually have numerous cracks around the stem end. The color varies according to the climate but generally the hotter the climate the darker the fruit. In my climate the fruit are a dark purplish color with green shoulders and the taste is intense. Definitely one of the tastiest tomatoes that I have ever eaten. Excellent for slicing, salads, and tomato sandwiches. Indeterminate, regular leaf foliage. (85 days from transplant).

- Large plant needs caging or staking. Seeds may be slow to germinate so give it plenty of time (up to 1 month). Produces moderate crop of medium to large oblate brownish fruit, usually with green shoulders. The fruit of the authentic strain have a sweet rich flavor with a smoky edge, giving them a very good taste. There is another strain of Black Krim that has a salty edge to the flavor and is tart, lacking the sweetness of the authentic strain but are still quite good.
- It took me several tries to get the authentic strain of this variety. Commercial seed that I purchased gave me crosses (typically with red fruit) or the salty strain. What I learned from these efforts is that in my opinion, commercial seed sources, including reputable companies, are no more reliable than home gardening seed savers at preventing the crossing of varieties. Commercial vendors, unless they specify otherwise, usually purchase seed in bulk through just a few wholesalers that supply many seed vendors, so if the supply is crossed, it can affect several retail sources. Garden Seed Inventory 6th edition noted 54 commercial sources in 2004.

History
- Ukrainian heirloom from Crimea region of Black Sea (Ukraine).
- First offered in the SSE 1990 Yearbook by Lars Olov Rosenstrom of Bromma, Sweden (SWED RO L), who described it as:
- "...a black tomato from Krim in Russia (Black Sea) (Tatiana's note: 'Krim' is actually in the Ukraine), needs heat (greenhouse) to turn black, outdoors in cold season will only be deep brown-purple."
