B.C KO T

indet, regular leaf plant with high yield of huge ribbed pink beefsteaks that are mostly round, 1 lb+, similar to variety called Joe's (Portuguese), but with slightly larger and more ribbed fruits. Some sources indicate that it is a red tomato, but it was light pinkish red for me (don't trust the color on the picture!). As you can see from Dan McMurray's picture, this tomato does not have any ribbing in his garden, perhaps it was an environmental condition in my 2007 garden that caused ribbing.

Seed source:

B.C MC D 06 (Val and Dan McMurray, Wynndel, BC, Canada)

Year grown: 2007

Location: Zone 7b, PNW, Anmore, BC, Canada (760 ft above sea level)

History

  • Portuguese var., named by Val and Dan McMurray who collected the seeds out of a sandwich in Portugal. Val and Dan originally called this tomato 'Portuguese', but then amended the name to 'DaCosta's Portuguese' in 2007, to avoid confusion with other tomato varieties called 'Portuguese'.

Similar vars.:

Joe's (Portuguese)
