History
- An old heirloom that dates back to the 1700s. Illustrated in Album Vilmorin, Plate 8 (1857).
- This tomato may actually be extinct, and the seeds offered today are not true Red Fig described in Vilmorin.
- The version that is available these days was id'ed based on the picture in Album Vilmorin by Williams Woys Weaver of Paoli, Pennsylvania (PA WE W), and we know it is not possible to id an unknown tomato based on pictures or descriptions. Some people think the seeds available today are actually Red Pear.
- First offered in the Seed Savers 1995 Yearbook by William Woys Weaver of Paoli, Pennsylvania (PA WE W), who obtained the seed from Russell Marcus of Pleasant Hill, Oregon (OR MA R) in 1993.
