First fruit ripens very early, 50-60 days from transplant. Det., regular leaf compact plants, 2-3' tall, with high yield of blood-red round 1-3 oz fruits. Tolerates cool weather very well and sets fruit at colder temperatures than most other tomato varieties. Super sweet flavor when fully ripe (when it gets the rich bloody-red color), meaty and very firm flesh with small seed cavities and almost no juice. Keeps several weeks after picking, and it may be considered as a long-keeper type with super-sweet taste, which is unusual. No cracking, even after heavy rains. First early fruits were not very sweet.

I recommend to pick the fruits when they turn light red color, and put the on the counter at room temperature to ripen for a couple of weeks to attain the rich color and the rich flavor. If fruits are even slightly under-ripe, the flesh is too firm for my liking, but it is still sweet.

History

An old standard early det. var. from the former Soviet Union, bred in 1940s by VNIISSOK at Gribovskya Veg. Selec. Exp. Station. Released for North West, Central, Urals and Eastern Siberian regions of the USSR in 1950.
Bison 639 x Luchshiy iz Vseh cross.
PI 345556. Donated to USDA in 1969 from the former USSR.
Introduced to SSE by Andrey Baranovski of Minsk, Belarus (BELR BA A) in the Seed Savers 2007 Yearbook.

"Сорт получен ВНИИ селекции и семеноводства овощных культур получен методом индивидуального и массового отбора из гибрида Бизон 639 х Лучший из всех 318 с дальнейшим направленным воспитанием. Сорт районирован в 1950 году.
Томат Грунтовый грибовский растение нештамбовое, детерминантное, высотой 40-52 см. Плоды плоскоокруглые и округлые, слаборебристые, красные, массой 55-90 грамм, число гнезд 4-6. Помидоры хорошо дозариваются. Вкусовые качества этого сорта помидоров удовлетворительные и хорошие. Грунтовый грибовский томат ценится за высокую урожайность, устойчивость растений к понижению температуры. Этот сорт используют для потребления в свежем виде. Он пригоден для посева непосредственно в грунт и для выгонки рассады на грядах. Во влажные годы поражается фитофторой и бактериальной гнилью. Pаннеспелый сорт, плоды созревают через 96-110 дней после всходов, плоды созревают дружно. Созревание плодов наступает на 105-й день после посева в том случае, когда рассаду выращивают в холодных рассадниках, и на 95-100-й день при посеве семенами непосредственно в грунт."
