History

  • According to some online sources, this is an heirloom pepper variety.
  • Based on the name, it may have come from Hidalgo region in Eastern Mexico.
  • First offered in the Seed Savers 1991 Yearbook by Donald C. Kellums of Port Byron, Illinois (IL KE D), who purchased seeds from CV Baxter Seed Co.
  • It has not been listed in SSE Yearbooks since 1994, but it is still available from a number of small seed vendors in the early 2010s.
