[[Craig LeHoullier]] (NC LE C) received the seeds from the originator, Archie Hook, of Indiana, with a letter indicating that he has been growing this variety since the 1940's and supplying his neighbors with seedlings of Hugh's that he grew in his greenhouse. We do not know how Mr. Hook came upon the variety, but it is similar in color to the old Burgess variety [[Colossal Yellow]] (Burgess was an Indiana seed company). In comparison, Hugh's is much more productive, uniform and tasty than [[Colossal Yellow]] from the USDA collection as grown by Craig; however, it could have been a superior selection from this variety that Mr. Hook developed and distributed.
