History

  • A potato leafed version of Cherokee Purple that appeared at about the same time as Cherokee Purple, Potato Leaf. It has been propagated and privately distributed since by Bill Malin of Hillsboro, New Mexico. Bill Malin got his original seeds from a friend in Ohio who found the original potato leaf version of his Cherokee Purple in his Ohio garden. Bill named it 'Spudakee'.
  • It is not clear whether Spudakee and Cherokee Purple, Potato Leaf are the same or not. Both versions should be grown side-by-side and compared with regular-leaved Cherokee Purple grown at the same time to see if there really are any differences.
  • First offered in the Seed Savers 2010 Yearbook by three SSE members.
