B.C GI K

Very early, rivals Stupice for how early it produces in my garden. Regular leafed determinate plant, very small (maximum of 2' in height) doesn't require staking. Red globular fruit, about 3" in diameter with good (although a little bit mild) flavour, excellent for containers. Grew this plant in the plot in 2007 and seemed to tolerate dry conditions well. Slight cracking, but that was more due to my inconsistency in watering.

History

  • A family heirloom from Edmonton in Alberta, Canada.
  • Barry Comden of California offered this variety to Carolyn Male. It had no name, and Barry said that a friend of his in California had gotten it from someone in Edmonton, Canada. Carolyn asked Barry to name it and he deferred to his Californian friend who named it Sophie's Choice.
  • First offered in the Seed Savers 1996 Yearbook by Carolyn Male of Salem, New York (NY MA C).
  • One of the 100 heirloom tomatoes noted in Carolyn J. Male's book "100 Heirloom Tomatoes for the American Garden"

CZEC GR V

A low determinant variety that proved to me during a very early cultivation in the hotbed. Relatively large fleshy fruits type of steak, slightly acidic, very good tomato flavor, early ripening. When growing in hobed the first harvest of ripe tomatoes already at the beginning of June-extending the harvest!
