History

  • Introduced by the late Darrel Merrel in 1997.
  • A selection of Hillbilly given to Darrel Merrel by Ruth Marcum of Collinsville, Oklahoma, which she received from her brother Ralph Miller of Ohio. Ruth's seeds grew out three different tomatoes. Darrel selected 1 lbs tomatoes of deep pink color, with a purplish or violet tinge, and named it "Royal Hillbilly". He described the flavor as "exquisite... - very complex blend of sweet and tartness, snappy yet smooth". See [1] for more details.
