B.C KO T

2-2.5' tall plants. Pods are 2-3" long and 1" in diameter at the stem, conical in shape, similar to Jalapeno peppers. Mature from bright green to orange and then to red. Pods have most heat in red stage, and are most flavorful in green stage when it is less hot. Rich in antioxidants. This is a popular variety for making ceviche and salsa.

History

  • According to Fresno pepper Wikipedia article, Fresno was developed and released for commercial cultivation by Clarence Brown Hamlin in 1952. Hamlin named it in honor of Fresno, California. The pepper is grown throughout California, specifically the San Joaquin Valley.
  • This variety has been listed in SSE Yearbooks since the late 1980s.
