History

  • A Danish heirloom variety from around 1880.
  • Original seeds from Mogens Elgum, whose great-grandfather was a professional gardener in Northern Jutland, Denmark. He grew this tomato (along with other vegetables) and sold them at the market in the nearby city. The family have grown them ever since, and always just referred to it as "kirsebærtomat" (cherry tomato) or "grandfather's tomato". It was given it's English name with Mogens Elgum's permission. It is quite disease resistant, and it also seems to be more cold tolerant than many other varieties.
